Summer Love Tarot Spreads

There is nothing sweeter than a fleeting summer romance. Those long hot days spent with someone special, are precious memories that . Maybe that summer lovin’ turned into a long lasting relationship? Or perhaps it was a brief and delightful encounter during that week spent at the beach when you were seventeen?

For those of you looking for love, we have a five-card spread to help you align with the energy of a summer romance. Get in the right mood and love will come knocking at your door.

If you are not in the market for a summer fling, then how about reviving some of those summer loving feelings anyway? The second spread is designed to make you feel young and fancy-free by releasing stress and falling in love with yourself.

The deck used for the example spreads is the Glastonbury Tarot by Lisa Tenzin-Dolma. The deck uses images from Glastonbury itself, and cards are based on the myths and legends surrounding this magical place. The hugely popular Glastonbury Festival is held around midsummer in England and is a celebration of music and fun.

If you prefer you can separate the Court cards from the rest of the deck, shuffle them and lay them down at the appropriate positions. This was not done in the examples; the cards just happened to fall right — that’s tarot for you!

Three earth cards (Vesicas) indicate that the energy of this reading is very grounded and that the circumstances surrounding this potential romance will be similarly earth-based. These are really interesting cards that deserve a deeper analysis but space dictates that I keep interpretations brief.

Card one – Sunny circumstances: where should I look? Nine of Vesicas (Nine of Pentacles). This card suggests that the best place to look for summer love will be outdoors, at some summer-related event. Think of festivals, BBQs, outdoor concerts, the beach, etc.

Card two – You are my sunshine: who am I looking for? Knight of Staffs (Knight of Wands). The Knight of Staffs is a fiery character and very outgoing. Usually the centre of his group. You can’t miss him (or her). He brings a new way of being — you won’t have known anyone like this before and his vibrant personality blows your socks off.

Card three – Midday sun: what energy do I bring to the romance? Maid of Vesicas (Page of Pentacles). You are the grounding force. He will be drawn to your strong earth energy and your insatiable curiosity. You are the balancing influence in this romance.

Card four – Moonlit nights: what energy does s/he bring to the romance? Ace of Vesicas (Ace of Pentacles). This card indicates that the fiery, inconsistent, quirky Knight of Staffs is tempered by a deep instinct to ground his energy. Firm foundations can be built here if both parties are in accordance.

Card five – Love for all seasons: could this last a lifetime of summers? The World. Indeed, this is one romance that could last, if not forever, then for a long time. A new phase is about to begin. You and your new love are in perfect harmony and all is right in your world.

Summer Love Tarot Spread #2

Question: How do I bring the energy of summer love into my life?

Shuffle and lay your cards out as the first spread, but this time have the ‘L’ face to the left. Start turning from the left-most card and working your way up to the top of the ‘L’.

  • Card one – Summers gone by – what or who should I honour from the past?
  • Card two – Taking it easy on the beach – what or who should I release?
  • Card three – Centre of my solar system – where should I direct my energy?
  • Card four – Summer garden – what do I need to cultivate now?
  • Card five – Sunlit path: where will it take me?

Example reading

Card one – Summers gone by – who or what should I honour from the past? Queen of Chalices. This card tells you that the person you should honour above all else is yourself. Embrace every particle of your being and know that every thought, feeling and action you have taken are precious. Without them, you would not be you.

Card two – Taking it easy on the beach – what or who should I release? Three of Vesicas (Three of Pentacles). Stop thinking about work or business. Let it go – it’ll be waiting for you when you are ready. This is no time for effort.

Card three – Centre of my solar system – where should I direct my energy? Eight of Chalices. Now you can explore. Go off the beaten track, allow yourself to try on a new persona – just for the fun of it. This is about you.

Card four – Summer garden – what do I need to cultivate now? Three of Staffs. Confidence in yourself is the seedling that requires your attention. Confidence in your own being, without any of the other stuff that we use to define ourselves.

Card five – Sunlit path: where will it take me? The Chariot. Steering your own ship. Knowing that you are moving forward under your own volition. That you have the innate confidence and knowing that you are a whole human being connected to the universe. You don’t need anything external to validate your existence or your worth.

Have fun with these romantic summer tarot spreads but don’t forget — you cannot build a lasting relationship with another unless you love yourself first.
