Have you ever faced Death and the Devil in the same reading? If reading for someone else, your mind races as you wonder how to put a positive spin on it. If the reading is for yourself, you probably feel like scooping up the cards and retreat, whimpering, into a corner.
Fear not, the appearance of the Death and Devil combination is a sign of change and transformation. Eventually, if you embrace the message and act on it, it’ll turn into a positive one. The question, situation and other cards will have a bearing on the interpretation. Here are some possible meanings.
- Release and Transformation
The Devil card suggests you are trapped by a negative relationship, job, friendship or addiction. Death tells you to ‘kill off’ that entrapment and allow those green shoots of positivity to take root. There may be a lot of hard work and self-discipline involved but your long-term goal of recovery will keep you on track.
- Facing Your Shadow
You may need to pull back your metaphorical shoulders and face up to the fact that you are sunk in darkness and despair. Your shadow self has become dominant and it’s time to let the light shine through. Of course, we all have a dark side because we are human. However, it’s important to insist it takes its place, rather than overwhelming you. Ask for help, if you need it.
- Personal Growth
These two cards might herald a period of personal growth. This is never entirely pain-free because the process of taking absolute control of your own life is difficult. It might be time to extricate yourself from some relationships. Be honest about it, both to them and yourself. You don’t need to have anything or anyone dragging you down.
- Embrace Your Power
Similar to the above, Death and the Devil encourage you to throw off the shackles of self-deprecation and begin to understand you are the one who drives your life forward. Make decisions instead of allowing others to make them for you.
- A Warning Message
If you have come through previous challenges in the past, these cards may appear as a warning you are in danger of slipping back into negative holding patterns. Take action now to change direction. The message could relate to any aspect of your life where you felt trapped and powerless. Avoid it.
- It’s a Test
These two cards represent a test of your inner strength and resilience. The challenges can be overwhelming but know that they are actually positive long-term. That old saying, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” is hackneyed but, nevertheless, true.
So when you encounter Death and the Devil together in a reading, don’t flinch. Instead be open to the opportunities they represent.
