The ‘Know Myself’ Tarot Spread

Who are you, really?

Know thyself spread Light Seers Tarot

If you are like 99% of human beings, one thing you are most interested in is… you. It is easy to get so caught up in life, though, that we forget to pay attention to our deeper self. Rushing around, getting to work, caring for others and making sure we look presentable; our busy-ness prevents awareness of our true thoughts and feelings.

Grab your favourite tarot deck and indulge yourself in this specially created tarot spread designed to help bring the hidden you into the light. You might also want to jot down a few notes as you go along, so have a notebook/journal and pen nearby.

The spread is based on six positions. Yet, you don’t have to restrict yourself to six cards. If you have more time, allocate two cards per position.

Lay the cards out in two rows of three. Cards one to three on top, four to six below. If you are using two cards per position, simply keep the pairs close together. Make a note of which cards appear in each position. This is a reading you will want to refer to often.

Position One—Conscious Thoughts

This position shows the vibrational state of your conscious, everyday thinking. Our minds are so full of ‘stuff’ that our thoughts are usually buzzing along, out of control. This is the voice of the ego, and it wants to keep you busy. It does not care about your spiritual well-being. In fact, it would rather you ignored the ‘real’ you. The card/s that show up here may be at odds with each other or in harmony. If there is a significant contrast between them, you may be feeling pulled in many directions.

Position Two—Emotional State

Your emotional state is a clear indicator of how you are doing mentally, physically, and emotionally. If you usually go along feeling minor ups and downs, with more ups than downs, you’re doing pretty well.

Someone in a low emotional state will suffer more with their health. Their wellbeing teetering on a knife-edge. The card/s in this position show the vibrational level of your emotions. Harmonious cards good; contrasting cards mean you need to pay attention to improving your emotions.

The good news is that your emotions do not control you—you can learn to influence the way you feel by deliberately thinking a better thought.

Position Three—Your View of the World, Life and Everything

This position is an amalgamation of the previous two — what you think and feel affects how you see the world around you. The card/s here reflect your general outlook. Do you need to improve it? What aspect of your being needs more love and attention?

Position Four—Your Subconscious

The card/s that appear here are important. They show deep feelings and thoughts that may never make it to the surface of your mind. You might connect with the cards right away, or you may well say ‘Uh?’ Don’t worry if you can’t make sense of what you are seeing right now.

Position Five—Your Energy Level

This is a straightforward indicator of how you are coping. Energy levels positive? Then you are doing well. A low-feeling card means you must take some rest, improve your food intake and give yourself a break. Physically, you might benefit from long walks in the fresh air.

Position Six—Progression

This card (or cards) reflects an improving or worsening condition. Having this information gives you the opportunity to make changes in your life, whether it be taking care of your inner peace, your physical body, your relationships, and your immediate environment. The previous cards in the spread will show which aspects of your life you should focus on first. Perhaps a mere de-clutter of your home will improve how you feel? Or maybe it’s time to undertake a spiritual practice, such as yoga or meditation?

This Tarot Spread is a Keeper

It might be a good idea to leave the Know Myself tarot spread out for a few days. Return to it often to gain new insights. For instance, it is designed so that the first three positions can be compared to the last three. Look for patterns, check the numbers of the cards. What Majors have appeared? What might they mean in their positions? Write down anything that occurs to you. Journal thoughts and feelings that it inspires. There is much more here than at first appears.

The important thing to learn is that to know who you are, you have to reassure and quieten the ego. You cannot be at peace with yourself while you have this chattering little demon diverting you from paying attention to your deeper aspects.

The best way to achieve this is through meditation. If this is not something you would enjoy (and I get that—I find it difficult), another method is to spend a few minutes practicing being in the ‘now’ Bring your attention to what you are doing, seeing, touching, smelling, hearing and, of course, feeling.

When you are in full awareness of ‘now’, your ego is quiet. You will recognize it as soon as it butts in. It will tell you that you should be doing something else, that you are wasting your time, and you really should take a selfie right now. Accept this is what it does; smile, and bring yourself back to the now moment. This is where your true self lies and is often called ‘mindfulness’.

Repeat the Know Myself spread at least twice a year, but no more than four times. It is worth giving yourself the time to discover how you are doing. This spread can help you bring balance and peace to your life. It will help you close the gap between who you appear to be and who you truly are. Know thyself; love thyself.
