Tarot journal – hindsight exercise

Idly glancing through one of my old tarot journals, I noticed that I always drew my card of the day in the morning. Although I didn’t always check back in at bedtime to record if the card had been useful or accurate, it made me think that perhaps taking a backwards approach might be more useful. If you are still trying to get to grips with the card meanings, how about trying a different tack?

Instead of drawing your card in the morning, switch your journaling habit and draw it at night, when your day is done. Have some questions ready, for example: Continue reading

Two of Cups

I have been lucky enough to have had two Two of Cups moments this week. I am not talking about full-on romantic attraction, far from it. Instead they were the experience of making a connection with people who share an interest. What made them Two of Cups meetings was that, in both cases, we realised we were ‘on the same page’ and ‘coming from the same place’. Continue reading

Use your tarot cards often…

Continuing with the spirit of incorporating tarot into everyday life, I have posted an article, “Make tarot work for you“, which includes lots of suggestions why you should keep a tarot deck to hand at all times. Two of CupsWell, okay most of the time; you can abandon them while you have your bath or shower. All right, if you must, you can leave them home when you go grocery shopping.

Seriously, you will learn so much if you use your tarot deck as often as you can — they won’t wear out, you know. Yes, all right, they will eventually but you can always buy another pack. Gosh, you are argumentative today, aren’t you? Hot weather too much for you?

Go sit in the shade with a long tall glass of something delicious and play with your tarot cards. Cheers!

Rainy days and Mondays

Happy Monday!

It’s forecast to be a rainy (as usual) Bank Holiday here in the UK. My task of the day is to clear out some book shelves to make room for a gift of books received (might that be what the Ace of Pentacles was pointing towards?)via our local Freecycle group. Thankfully the weekend was beautifully sunny so my hubby began his garden project (laying the foundations for a shed – Ace of Pents again?). There was a definite Justice moment when someone got the wrong end of the stick about someone else and I had to try to put it right. Hopefully, that’s sorted. Lessons learned all round, I think. So, yes, those two cards on Friday were very apt indeed.

As I mentioned, I am book-sorting today. What we often do is collect books – non-fiction, novels, anything – via a recycle group and then take what we want, repack the ones we don’t, together with books of our own we have read or no longer need. Then we post a message back on the group and the books go off to a new home. It’s a good way to refresh our collection of reading material.

My card for today comes from the Universal Waite deck, the Mary Hanson-Roberts re-coloured one. I like 7-Cupsthis version of the Rider-Waite; it’s easy on the eye and the subtle colours bring out much more of the detail in Pamela Smith’s artwork.

Seven of Cups. Hmmm… overwhelmed with choices, unable to make a decision, illusion, fantasy. I could link it to my book-task, I suppose, but it doesn’t feel like the right connection. Sevens in tarot are pretty slippery, if you ask me. They can be hard to pin down, particularly this card – it is neither positive or negative. Context is everything. In one reading I did long ago, someone linked it to ‘chemistry’. It does have a feeling of Temperance about it. Spiritually speaking, the Seven of Cups is a good reminder to carry with you a positive vision; a dream that feels obtainable, and the knowing that it can happen. Then you put it in a safe place and take the first step towards making that dream a reality.

Have a lovely day, and may all your cards be good ones.

Edit: I wonder if the Seven of Cups could mean me being somewhat tipsy?

It’s been a Four of Cups day

Golden Tarot 4 CupsYou should see that woman’s expression in Kat Black’s Golden Tarot Four of Cups. That’s me, that is. Grumpy, fed up and ever-so-slightly resentful. Moany, moany, moan.

Been telling myself all day that I need to look for the good stuff; opportunities and fun. It didn’t work. And I grumped. The thing which started me off was discovering an employee of a very well-known institution in the UK (it’s the one that looks after old property and stately homes. Yep, that’s the one) had lifted half of one of my revenue-share articles and posted it on a blog under her own name. Cool, eh? There it sits, diverting my own traffic and thusly, earnings. Can you blame me for being a bit Four of Cups?

Then there was the trials and tribulations of… oh the usual daily mish-mash of home-schooling – kids needed help to write summaries of projects they are doing; training a Guide Dog puppy; dealing with my bank trying to sell me policies I don’t want or need, and a delightful cold caller from a stair-lift company asking to speak to “Mr Lobster.” No kidding.

Seeing as I’m feeling well in-tune with this card, let’s take a closer look.

A woman sits, arms folded, staring into space. She wears a somewhat disgruntled expression. At her feet sit a bunch of sheep and a pissed-off dog. A donkey stands nearby looking just as miserable as the woman. To the woman’s right there are three golden chalices. Above her an angel has appeared in a glowing cloud of loveliness, offering another golden cup. Grumpy girl is doing her best to ignore him.

Kat Black’s accompanying book tells us that the person in the card is a boy. Well, it’s a boy in a frock then. Sorry, Kat, I’ve decided she’s a woman. It’s obvious that she’s been left to do all the work of animal husbandry and, for some reason, can’t even help herself to a slug of red wine. She’s probably had an article plagiarised too.

The Four of Cups feels a bit ‘out of it’; a kind of low-level depression. She knows there are blessings all around but she is buggered if she is even going to acknowledge them as she wallows in her bad mood. The best thing do do in this situation is to just allow it to be. It’s okay to let the world go by; it’s even okay to have a good moan. Sometimes you just need to. You know that you will soon feel better and more energised but just for now, take it easy, give yourself a break and take the dog for a gentle walk.

The fours in tarot are quite static and when you find yourself stuck for a moment, or even a day, then there’s no point pushing against it. Work with it. Just do what you gotta do to get through the day. Tomorrow will be better. I promise 🙂
